About Us

In the greater European context and in terms of ethno-linguistic considerations, there are three broad categories of people groups: (1) indigenous majority languages speakers (such as French speakers in France, or Croatian speakers in Croatia, etc.); (2) non-indigenous minority languages speakers (such as longer-term and new immigrant communities); and (3) indigenous minority languages speakers (such as Welsh in Wales, Basque in Spain, Frisian in the Netherlands - in the North American contexts, this third category would be akin to First Nations peoples such as the Navajo, Ojibwe, Cherokee, etc.). Most missions agencies do an excellent job in trying to reach the first two categories of people group, especially through urban strategy. However, the third category of people groups tend to be left behind, because they are usually found in large concentrations in more rural contexts, and they require the use of both a trade language such as English, Russian or Italian, and the heart language such as Gaelic, Komi, or Friulian. For this reason, we concentrate on this third category of people groups, because they are largely unengaged.

"Linguæ Christi" (pronounced "leen-gway Chris-tee") is Latin and means "the languages of Christ." This name is significant to us for three reasons: (1) We believe that Jesus speaks every language; (2) The Gospel penetrates most deeply, when communicated in people's "heart" languages; and (3) Accordingly, we are dedicated to share the Gospel with these people groups through the medium of their "heart" languages.

Though the term "minority" is used this does not mean that the numbers of speakers are minimal or insignificant. Over 100 million people across Europe speak one of these indigenous "minority" languages, spread over 165 distinct languages from 5 language families and some language isolates.

For many years, we have utilised university students in short-term (usually summer) projects as well as medium-term projects.
